A collection of notes which go beyond technique to explore line, pattern and colour, then ask how to suggest texture, or movement – or how to suggest space on cloth using liquid dye? How does the transparency and liquidity of dye affect our reading of space? What are the textural possibilities of combining different colorants and materials. The spatial characteristics of layered dye colour are explored through a series of artworks where the process is deconstructed and recorded as a visual sequence. Visual sequence leads into new directions, exploring illusory image and tactile surface, making new 'resist prints' – artworks where dye colour, inkjet print and resist interact with paper collage.
